Yngwie Malmsteen – REH Master’s Series
Yngwie Malmsteen REH Master’s Series
It’s Yngwie and of course you know what you’re going to get. Rock’s greatest Neoclassical guitarist isn’t a particularly good teacher but given this video is likely to appeal to those who want to learn Yng’s licks (or as below, plagiarise a few neoclassical phrases) then any shortcomings in his instructional style are probably going to be forgiven.
Here we have the usual scale, arpeggio and pivot lick ideas that have been covered ad infinitum in various magazines as well as a few demonstrations of those motifs in musical settings – however I don’t want to be too dismissive. This isn’t a bad video, it’s just not as widespread in it’s appeal as other’s I’ve taken the time to look at – it’s simply more enamoured with trying to sound like Yng than taking his concepts and applying them to your own playing. Make no bones about it, Yngwie is arguably the best Neoclassicist currently in the popular eye and there’s a lot of great ideas…
Still worth a look for the Neoclassical brigade, and given he covers some sections from his compositions then avid fans will no doubt be enthralled
